A CORRECTION AND A CONFERENCE

1 It's not the principle, it's the money!

Earlier this week the IPKat reported the Republic of Turkey's accession to the Madrid Protocol on the international filing of trade marks. The IPKat's sharp-eyed friend Ugur Aktekin spotted this error. Turkey has of course been a member of Madrid for several years. The real news item was that the Republic had notified WIPO that it was altering the basis upon which it secures remuneration in respect of international trade mark filings. Thanks, Ugur.

2 For those who truly love IP litigation ...

... there's an enjoyable day ahead of you at the Cafe Royal, just down the road from London's Piccadilly Circus. Mark your diaries for Tuesday 11 October, when the CLT conference "Intellectual Property Litigation 2005" takes place. There's an exciting range of topics to cover, including some novelties. Alan Bryson (Wilberforce Chambers) and Isabel Davies (Howrey Simon) debate the pros and cons of alternative dispute resolution; Larry Cohen (McDermott Will & Emery) has some war stories, Willoughby/Rouse's Diana Sternfeld (below, left) and Karen Fong (below, right) review British fortunes when "playing away" at OHIM, the EPO and WIPO, while IPKat co-blogmeister Jeremy will be speculating on the strategic uses to which non-binding comptrollers' opinions (an innovation under the UK's Patents Act 2004) can be put.

The conference will culminate with a "horses for courses" session, in which panelists will be asked for their answer to the delicate question "how do you actually choose your IP litigation team?".

We all hope to see you there, for what promises to be a challenging and stimulating day.
